Millwrighting
Rozell Industries, Inc. has highly experienced millwrights to perform any task, from annual equipment maintenance to installation of pulp and paper mill machinery. Our millwrights work with virtually any piece of equipment that needs maintenance, adjustment, or installation. And the millwrights we employ are both dedicated and flexible—they may adjust pump settings and alignment one day, then work on a complex utility system the next.
What does a millwright do?
Millwrights install and repair machinery and heavy equipment. At Rozell, the millwright's responsibilities begin when machinery arrives at the job site. The new equipment must be unloaded, inspected, and then moved into position. Once it is in position, our millwrights use hoisting devices such as pulleys and cables to lift and move the equipment if it is light machinery. In the case of heavier pieces, they use hydraulic lift-truck or crane operators to position the machinery. Because millwrights often decide what device to use for moving machinery, they must know exactly the load-bearing properties of ropes, cables, hoists, and cranes.
When assembling machinery, millwrights follow manufacturers' drawings and blueprints. They carefully measure where to drill holes to attach machinery to foundations. Once the main unit is in place, the millwright attaches any required parts to it. They fasten machine parts together with bolts, rivets, and welds. They also fit bearings, align gears and wheels, attach motors, and connect belts. Sometimes parts must be made slightly smaller to fit properly. Millwrights use special machines to reduce the size of parts. Many new machines are now installed with robots and computer controls. Millwrights may program these controls or work with numerical control tool programmers.
Finally, once the machinery is completely installed, millwrights run thorough tests to be sure it functions properly.
